Ugonna Onyekwe
Notes: Two-Time Ivy League Player of the Year
The Skinny:

Onyekwe is a post player with very good offensive skills, but he never dominated the Ivy League like he should have. He has good strength but could use more, has a nice touch from just outside the paint on his jump shot and can handle the ball well for his size. He can also step out and hit a college three-pointer as well and occasionally take a defender of the dribble, as he’s more athletic than many power forwards. He is a good rebounder, but probably should be even better.

Onyekwe’s biggest liabilities are his defense and how he plays the game. He always seemed soft on the low post, and never seemed to make big plays in crunch time. Part of why he never dominated might be the system that the Quakers ran, which doesn’t emphasize the very complete set of skills and athleticism he possesses.

Onyekwe’s projections range widely; some thing he could sneak into the first round. What’s most likely is that if he is drafted, it will be late in the draft, and he will need a good showing with a summer league team to make an NBA roster next season.
