Mountain West Semifinals Preview

Mountain West Conference Semifinals Preview

Preview by Keith Irizarry

(2) BYU vs. (3) Utah
The best match up of the semis will be BYU and Utah. If BYU wins, you’d have to believe that on the strength of 10 straight wins, they’d be a lock to get into the NCAA’s, even if they lose in the finals. If Utah wins, they still probably need to win the title, so as to ensure a ticket into the Big Dance. Either way, this match up will be lethal. Fasten your seatbelts for what may be a bumpy, hard-fought ride.

Prediction: BYU 74, Utah 71

(4) UNLV vs. (8) Colorado State
On the other side of the bracket, the upstart Rams of Colorado State are trying to continue their upsetting ways, as they will face the #4 seeded UNLV Runnin’ Rebs. Fresh off of a pair of nice quarterfinal victories, both teams should be ready and revved up to go. The Rams, as an eight-seed are trying to stay alive. The Runnin’ Rebels have to believe that they are inching closer to their fourth consecutive MWC championship game, and if they get their, would you be bold enough to bet against them? Nah, didn’t think so. Player to watch: Odartey Blankson. He will not have two consecutive poor outings.

Prediction: UNLV 59, Colorado State 46
