Texas Tech: Knight Retires at Texas Tech

Knight Retires at Texas Tech: Texas Tech coach Bob Knight has announced he is retiring, effective immediately, and his son Pat, a Red Raider assistant, will take over as head coach. Knight said he retired at this point in the season to give Pat Knight an opportunity to coach the final regular-season games and be better prepared for next season. Knight has 902 wins in a 42-year career that includes time at Army, Indiana and Texas Tech. The sometimes controversial coach has been the Red Raiders’ coach since 2001. Last season, he surpassed North Carolina coach Dean Smith as the all-time leader for wins in men’s basketball Division I basketball. [2/04/08]
