Ohio State: Ohio State Pays O’Brien

Ohio State Pays O’Brien: The Ohio Supreme Court declined Ohio State’s appeal to former head coach’s Jim O’Brien lawsuit, signaling the end of a long court battle and earning the coach almost $3 million. Ohio State fired O’Brien in 2004 after he told then-athletic director Andy Geiger that he had given a $6,000 loan to a prospect, a violation of NCAA rules. The coach sued the university because he was fired without a due process of investigation. The 57-year-old hasn’t coached since but may be able to do it again as soon as March 10. He said he hasn’t made a decision on whether he’ll come back to the courts or not. [2/22/08]
