Jacksonville State Ditches LaPlante: Jacksonville State has fired coach Mike LaPlante, ending his eight-year run as the Gamecocks’ leader. Jacksonville State finished 7-22 this season and 5-15 in the Ohio Valley Conference, and the Gamecocks failed to qualify for the OVC Tournament. LaPlante finishes his tenure at Jacksonville State with a 95-137 record. He has been an assistant coach at Yale, Maine and Auburn. [3/03/08]
