2014 Hoop Mountain Fall Classic Showcase Evaluations

FOXBORO, Mass. – Friday night was a night for prospects to gather at Mass Premier Courts in Foxboro for the Hoop Mountain Fall Classic Showcase. An event they have run for years, it saw over 200 players compete in a series of games over three hours. Although largely an event for seniors to be seen one last time by college coaches before the school season, there were some underclassmen who were noteworthy as well.

With that, we take a look at some of the players who stood out on the evening.

Quentin Bullen (6’3″ Sr. SG, Exeter (NH) Worcester Academy)     He called his own number often, and after a slow start he shot the ball very well from long range. His body is maturing and he’s come a long way from earlier in his high school career.

Bruce Carey (Jr. SF-PF, Chicopee (MA) Comprehensive HS)     Long and athletic, it’s not clear if he’s ultimately an undersized post player or a wing. He rebounded and ran the floor, but his ball skills need work, especially for the wing.

Connor Daly (6’0″ Jr. SG, Simsbury (CT) Northwest Catholic HS)     Although his body has some to go, he stood out by being active, especially on the boards. He was in a lot of plays, and while he doesn’t have a clearly defined position, he can help as a hustle player.

Chris Demartinis (6’1″ Sr. PG, Burlington (MA) High)     Though he’s not the truest point guard, he competes when on the floor and plays bigger than his size. Here, he led the break, finished a broken play and also hit from mid-range.

Garrisson Duvivier (6’5″ Sr. SF-PF, Brockton (MA) High)     Athletic forward has a good frame and impressed with his shot-blocking more than anything else on Friday night. He can do other things, and he was in his share of plays at both ends, but his work defensively stood out here.

Daniel Folds (6’2″ Jr. SG, Hudson (NY) High)     One of the most impressive players here, he’s very athletic and was seemingly unstoppable going to the basket. He scored mostly on drives, including using his left (off) hand.

Brandon Johnson (6’4″ Sr. SF, Mount Vernon (NY) Loomis Chaffe School)     One of the best players here, he was clearly the best player on the floor in an opening game. The lefty is well-built and scored well through long jumpers and drives to the basket.

Javier Johnson (6’0″ Sr. PG, Hartford (CT) MacDuffie School)     He showed some promise here, as he has some speed with the ball and a good frame. He also finished a runner with some contact and was in his share of plays.

Ryan LaVallee (6’7″ Sr. PF, Carver (MA) Archbishop Williams School)     A post player with a good frame, he could be a stretch-4 for someone, as he has a little length but overall seemed more effective away from the basket. While he didn’t shy away from the interior entirely, he hit a couple of three-pointers off the catch to do much of his damage.

Connor MacIsaac (6’6″ Jr. PF, Canton (MA) Rivers School)     A post player with a good frame, his body has a ways to go but he isn’t lacking tools. He blocked a couple of shots, as he has a little length, and got a few scoring chances he took advantage of.

Isaiah McLeod (6’1″ Sr. PG-SG, Cambridge (MA) Rindge & Latin School)     Here, he reminded many that he’s been quite under the radar. His body still has some to go, so he hasn’t yet tapped into all he has, and he shot the ball well out to long range and also got inside to make plays, such as sticking back his own miss one time.

Brian Mukasa (6’0″ Sr. PG, Sharon (MA) St. Andrew’s School)     He had a fine evening here, getting rebounds and leading the break. Besides finding teammates in transition, he also shot the ball well.

Nicholas Poli (6’1″ Sr. SG, Cumberland (RI) High)     A nice find here, he’s a plus athlete whose body has a ways to go, but he impressed with his driving ability. Right now he looks to be more of a “potential” player.
