Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis – April 9, 2019

Welcome to the national championship edition of Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis. We have a new national champion, and it was a little different game than some had expected.

Many expected Virginia and Texas Tech to have a competitive game, but more like a low-scoring game. Instead, we got an overtime game where the pace was a lot faster at times than expected, and regulation ended with the game tied at 68. In the end, De’Andre Hunter and Virginia pulled out an 85-77 win for the program’s first national championship.

Texas Tech managed to hang in despite a 5-22 night from Jarrett Culver, thanks in part to Brandone Francis coming off the bench and giving them a big lift with 17 points.

In victory, Virginia head coach Tony Bennett exuded the same class we have seen all along, including after the historic defeat last year. We invite readers to take a look at his postgame quotes, especially in closing.

We hope you enjoy the podcast and share it with your fellow college basketball fans. Be sure to check out our season wrap-up in a couple of days as well, then tune in throughout the off-season as we look back on this season and begin looking ahead to 2019-20.
