Iowa got a nice win over Illinois on Sunday to get within a game of first, which was far from a given after roster changes and in-season adversity since the end of last year. Plus the Red Storm just can’t pull out wins in conference, one mid-major league race gets a little more interesting, and some clarity comes on a bizarre incident from a night earlier.
The Pac-12 is much better this year, but the competitiveness hasn’t changed and the standings are but one reflection of that. Plus a big day of action, one player apparently bit off more than he can chew, and a couple of injuries will keep players out until at least late in the season.
The team right behind Dayton in the Atlantic 10 is the Rams, as predicted, but not the Rams that were predicted to be there. Plus Ivy League play begins in earnest with a couple of streaks snapped in one game, a couple of league leaders win, and a Tar Heel may be set to return.
At first, the results were concerning, but the bottom is falling out of a Pac-12 favorite’s season. Plus home teams win again in the Big Ten, a very tight race in one mid-major almost got even tighter, and a Buckeye will be out to deal with an important matter off the court.
There’s little separation throughout the Big East, and Wednesday reminded us of that. Plus one team stays undefeated, a dubious record in the SEC, and twice the bad news in Madison.
Can the ACC picture for the NCAA Tournament get any more murky? Plus no surprises in the Big Ten despite one team without key players, rallies in the SEC and a health concern postpones a couple of games.
Is North Carolina turning a corner all of a sudden, and before Cole Anthony comes back? Plus a tough road loss in the Big Ten, one team stays winless in its conference, and a key Wolverine will be missing on Tuesday.
An NBA legend who meant so much to the game itself is gone too soon. Plus a rare good day to be a road team in one conference, an unpleasant surprise in another, and the Missouri Valley is all tied up at the top.
The top team in one of the polls certainly looked the part on Saturday, though that can always change. Plus a pair of Hurricanes have to sit, a former leader passes on, and a conference clears up something from the end of a recent game.
On a light night of action, a Big East battle that tipped a little later was everything we could have hoped for, and a big win for a team that had lost three in a row. Plus there’s no doubt who’s on top in one league, two teams have a reversal of fortune in the Big Ten, and a Wildcat is moving on.
