After a decidedly down season before, the Big West Conference followed up with a much-needed bounce-back year in 2017-18. Perhaps surprisingly so.

While the first week of July was a challenge with exceedingly warm weather, that paled in comparison to the passing of two great basketball people: Jim O’Connell and Danny Kelleher.
Its top program moved on, but the Missouri Valley Conference persevered like it always does-and in fact came out even stronger, led by Loyola Chicago’s fantastic season.
Just a few years after realignment changed the Big East immensely, the conference put forth a terrific season all the way around, and looks to be in great shape. A national champion led the way, but there is much more behind them.

With most of the major personnel changes very much in the books now, we revise our first pass at a Top 25 for the 2018-19 season accordingly. This is the end result, with some shuffling that includes a powerhouse dropping down some.
The Ancient Eight appears to have a lot of potential in the seasons to come, building on what the programs showed this season, especially among their underclassmen.
The NBA Draft didn’t disappoint this year from what was expected – at times, the unexpected. There were surprises, not-surprises, and players who probably didn’t get the result they were hoping for on the evening.
From before the season right to the bitter end, 2017-18 was a season to forget for the Pac-12. It can only get better from here for all of them, or so we think, and it gets really interesting trying to look ahead save for one idea: next season will be better.
