In our latest podcast, we explore what’s happening with a few elite teams, two of who are a bit surprising and one who is not. We also look at one state where things are especially bad out west and got worse over the last couple of days, as well as a recent announcement regarding the NCAA Tournament.
Wofford is going to be a much-discussed team between now and March, but a look at the entire resume-not just Quadrant 1-should say surefire NCAA tourney team. The Terriers also won a dandy in overtime Thursday night at East Tennessee State. Plus: buzzer beaters galore.
A wild night included surprise results and a conference scoring record broken by the same star who held it before. Plus one SEC team is hard to figure out, a Big 12 team is not in a good place, and an expected dandy out west was just that.
So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.
Conference play is here in earnest now, and it couldn’t come soon enough. The ACC, Southern Conference and WCC offered some glimpses of where we’ll see it at its best over the next two months.

Then we go on to how a few conferences shape up, news of a coach returning to action in an overseas professional league, and look ahead to a busy slate of games.
Arizona State started strong, but it was all downhill from there as Vanderbilt topped the ranked Sun Devils at Memorial Gym. Plus, Gardner-Webb continues recent history of beating big boys.
Friday night was another bad one for the Pac-12 as it has not improved much from last season. Plus a transfer will have to sit after all and wait to play, plus one more big night from a big man who has put up many of them.
