There was plenty of drama and a lot of good basketball, and in the end the ACC/Big Ten Challenge ended up even. Plus Big East teams add wins, a Bonnie is finally back in action, and a couple of monster games with teams on opposite ends of the bottom line.
Checking in on new coaches getting their first wins at Connecticut, Louisville and Siena. Plus, Stephen F. Austin’s early-season woes, and looking at a big schedule coming up Friday.
We continue with our countdown to the start of the college hoops season, taking a quick peek at Conference USA, the Horizon and Ivy leagues, MAAC, MAC and MEAC. Plus some interesting preseason results.
Its top program moved on, but the Missouri Valley Conference persevered like it always does-and in fact came out even stronger, led by Loyola Chicago’s fantastic season.

Being a small, relatively unknown, Franciscan Catholic school is plenty enough to appeal to the average, underdog-loving fan of the NCAA Tournament, but St. Bonaventure provided all the more reason to for fans to take notice with its play Tuesday night.
It’s been a long time-way too long-since UNC Charlotte made some noise on the national college basketball scene. Pretty much everyone would’ve rather the 49ers made their return in a different way than they did Thursday, though.

Happy Thanksgiving. While the Battle 4 Atlantis has been one of the premier early season tourneys in recent years, this year’s event looked very top-loaded. Thursday proved otherwise.
It’s become almost a yearly occurrence now that Scott Drew’s Baylor squads are underrated heading into a season. The Bears perennially are undersold. They don’t have blueblood status steeped in decades of tradition. They just may not ‘look’ like a top 20 team in a modern game that values guards upon guards and has little use for teams defined by a quirky defense. Maybe it’s just the bad highlighter uniforms. Whatever the reason, it’s an error that needs to be corrected.
