In our latest podcast, we look at off-court matters like a new name, image and likeness law as well as the first school to be punished by the NCAA coming out of the FBI investigation. Also, we look at a big loss for the Gators and some questions about the future of mid-major conferences, especially if they have a big geographic footprint.
In our latest podcast, we start with some developing news off the court, then deal with matters on the court like Duke’s two big wins in three nights, Creighton getting a big win on the road, and much of the Atlantic 10 appearing to revert to the mean since conference play began.
It seems like so long ago that Memphis was thought to be a top 10 team and perhaps even a national title contender. Plus things are getting more interesting out west, a big win in the Big Ten for a team that has been up and down, and the challenges continue in Austin.
The team right behind Dayton in the Atlantic 10 is the Rams, as predicted, but not the Rams that were predicted to be there. Plus Ivy League play begins in earnest with a couple of streaks snapped in one game, a couple of league leaders win, and a Tar Heel may be set to return.
As a light week of action closes, a couple of related thoughts come to mind with teams playing others in their area. Plus one more light night includes an overtime game in the Big Ten, an important notice out west, and news emerges that should surprise no one coming out of the nation’s capital.
Duquesne has not seen a lot of winning since their last trip to the NCAA Tournament 42 years ago, but there may be some renewed hope as the Dukes win again. Plus the Hawkeyes put forth a complete effort for a win, a bad injury for the Hilltoppers, and a school is questioning the evidence presented in its notice of allegations.
One of the last games of the night was all we could hope for and more, and also leaves one hopeful about future matchups between the two teams. Plus more tournaments get going, a straw breaks the camel’s back with transfer waivers, and a Wildcat is gone from the program.
Another season is almost here, and while the season seems to start too early, it might be just right this time around. It’s high time we got to focus on the action on the hardwood instead of off it.
