16 teams now remain in the NCAA Tournament, and chances are, there is at least one or two among them that you did not expect. And likewise, there is probably a team or two that you expected to be alive that is not.

It was that kind of weekend. The first round might not have had much in the way of drama or upsets, but the second round made up for that, including on Sunday where two No. 2 seeds went down. One of them was a team many felt had a case for a No. 1 seed. Ted Sarandis and I talk about all of this and much more on College Basketball Tonight.

Scanning the Nation Notebook: On CFP ratings, injuries, South Carolina and more

Some college basketball thoughts in mid-January, as we start to settle into the grind of conference play for the next 1 1/2 months:

It’s notable that there was little more than cursory note by the movers and shakers in college basketball of the fact that the rating for the Alabama/Clemson College Football Playoff title game was lower than that for last year’s Duke/Wisconsin college hoops NCAA national championship game. One would think this is something for the sport to celebrate, not at the expense of college football but as a sign that interest in the sport-or at the very least, its crown jewel event-is not nearly as far behind football as sometimes implied.

The Morning Dish – Saturday, December 19, 2015

Frank Martin has done some very good things as a college basketball coach. The latest of those is making South Carolina relevant once again and on the verge of NCAA Tournament contention, something that continues as non-conference play is winding down.

The Gamecocks completed another 2-0 week with a 65-69 win over Clemson in Greenville on Friday night, improving to 10-0, their best start since 1933-34. They are the only undefeated team in the SEC at this point, and although all non-conference schedules are not created equal, this is the latest sign of progress under Martin. That’s also not to cast their record in the wrong light, because it’s not like they have only beat up on teams with RPIs north of 300.

We hope you enjoyed COLLEGE BASKETBALL TONIGHT during the 2016 NCAA Tournament. COLLEGE BASKETBALL TONIGHT is a comprehensive look at the NCAA Tournament hosted by veteran college basketball broadcaster Ted Sarandis, along with co-hosts Mike Jarvis and Terry O'Connor, both former Division I coaches. It also included many great guests, including Hoopville's own Phil Kasiecki.

The show aired on AM 710 WOR in New York City on Sunday evenings starting with Selection Sunday and running through the NCAA Tournament.
