As conference tournaments get into full swing, the Mountain West takes center stage with its share of drama, including a shocker to end the day. Plus the Huskies get a big win to affect the top of their conference race, the Pac-12 is down to two for its regular season crown, and the Eagles soar above their competitors to control their own destiny in the Big Sky.
Iowa got a nice win over Illinois on Sunday to get within a game of first, which was far from a given after roster changes and in-season adversity since the end of last year. Plus the Red Storm just can’t pull out wins in conference, one mid-major league race gets a little more interesting, and some clarity comes on a bizarre incident from a night earlier.
In a Big East opener, a team that was expected to be pretty good was just that down the stretch to get a key road win. Plus a tough team to figure out down south, road teams are winning early in one conference, and a few other notable results include a milestone win.
The Horizon League through some rocky times has seen a pair of programs emerge as its best, and Northern Kentucky and Wright State engaged in a good league race in 2018-19 with the Norse making their second NCAA trip in three years.
In the NIT semifinals, the team with the better first half won both games, though one had to battle back after blowing the lead. Plus another championship game matchup is set, a very expected coaching change, and one team might not gain a top recruit next season.
