2017 ACC Postseason Awards: One Man’s Vote

by - Published March 5, 2017 in Columns

On Sunday afternoon, the ACC will announce its postseason award winners, a very quick turnaround from the end of the regular season. The ACC hands out several postseason awards and also names five teams of players – three All-ACC teams, an All-Freshman and an All-Defensive team.

The awards are voted on by the conference’s head coaches, SIDs, 30 members of the media and one member from each school’s radio network. The conference will make the names and affiliations of the media members public, but not their ballots. NC State announced that Mark Gottfried would finish this season, then not return as the head coach next season.

No, this season was supposed to go a little differently than this. And now the challenge is to alter the course, to change the narrative. Accomplishing it is easier said than done.

2015 Spalding Hoophall Classic – Monday notes

by - Published January 21, 2015 in Recruiting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The last day of the Spalding Hoophall Classic may have had only five games, but it was the big one, full of TV matchups. There was plenty of star power, and the only game not nationally televised was a great game to start the day that came right down to the final buzzer.

The first three games of the day were all close, while the fourth was close until the fourth quarter. The last one wasn’t quite as close as the final score might suggest. The constant was the talent, and although each team had star performers, most also had good support players and/or younger talents that helped out and are also worth noting and watching in the future.
