Another team atop the polls went down on Saturday, continuing the wild season we have had with conference play still mostly to come. Plus the Jayhawks lose more than a game and the Volunteers lose a key player who was no small part of their recent rise on a very busy Saturday.
Two Big 12 programs got big wins on Wednesday and hope each is a sign of better things to come. Plus more tournament action includes a few other championship games, a Tiger will be out as long as first thought, and wrist injuries sideline a couple of key veterans.
Tournaments may be the talk of the town, but Stephen F. Austin took that over for one night at least. Plus a big tournament delivers, one tournament is getting smaller, and a new assistant is coming to Omaha.
The first day of action in the Maui Invitational didn’t quite start off as expected, but that might help in a year where it may be surpassed in terms of having the best field. Plus more tournament action includes one championship, a program first in Richmond, and a Hawkeye is done for the season.
A breakout performance against a stout defense looked like it might be enough for a big win, but it was not meant to be. Plus a couple of mid-majors break through, the Huskies were hot a little west of home, and a pair of Cardinals may be returning soon.
Opening night was as good as advertised, led by the big doubleheader in New York where the nightcap belonged to one freshman in particular. Plus a few road wins lead some close ones, a couple of mild surprises, and some major league blowouts with non-Division I schools.
