For the second time in three days, a big-time matchup for a tournament championship was at least as good as advertised. Plus several more tournament final matchups are set, a concerning development in Nashville, and a first loss of the season in a blowout.
Texas picked up its marksmanship and got a career performance from Kerwin Roach in a signature win over North Carolina. Plus, Thanksgiving tourney action including Virginia & Wisconsin advancing at Atlantis, surprises by Fresno State and Hawaii and more.
In addition to always being a day for football, Thanksgiving has slowly become more and more of a day for college basketball in the decade. This year, Turkey Day brought a good number of quality matchups. It also was a day for resurgence for a number of schools who sent a message to not count them out, some showing that their seasons are not over after the loss of a key player, others displaying that they are not ready to fade from the national spotlight just yet, after many had assumed they have done just that.
The Great Alaska Shootout is a longtime Thanksgiving weekend tradition in its 39th year, but whether it will reach a 40th year is in question.
The ACC just might be ready to become the juggernaut it was expected to become. Plus more tournament action, including finals set, and one team with potentially another significant injury.
Thanksgiving Day traditionally hasn’t been a hotbed for college basketball, but in recent years the sport has had an increasing presence on the day, with the continued proliferation of exempted tournaments. (And that’s not an all bad thing, considering the lackluster quality of the NFL games yesterday…)
