As a light week of action closes, a couple of related thoughts come to mind with teams playing others in their area. Plus one more light night includes an overtime game in the Big Ten, an important notice out west, and news emerges that should surprise no one coming out of the nation’s capital.
On a light night of action, none of the games were all that competitive, including a rivalry game that gave us a little to think about with both teams. That, and a scary development for a former NBA commissioner.
At Rutgers, progress continues apace, but now with a big win coming a little earlier in the season and more reason to think it will continue. Plus another much-needed win in Big Ten play, the president speaks on legislation, and a response to some NCAA allegations.
A wild night of basketball started off that way as two highly-ranked teams went down, one to a team many had mixed thoughts about before the season. Plus close calls in Waco and Boulder, and a few other results on a light night include a buzzer-beater.
Duquesne has not seen a lot of winning since their last trip to the NCAA Tournament 42 years ago, but there may be some renewed hope as the Dukes win again. Plus the Hawkeyes put forth a complete effort for a win, a bad injury for the Hilltoppers, and a school is questioning the evidence presented in its notice of allegations.
The last game of the day was a big one in Ames, where the home team got a much-needed quality win. Plus the other team lost more than a game, an ACC power’s scoring struggles continue, and two teams got big road wins on the day.
The week didn’t start out well at all for Georgetown, but the Hoyas sure ended it in fine fashion and showed great resilience in so doing. Plus notes on many of the games, and another injury scare for the Buffaloes.
There were a few games of interest on Friday night, especially one that opened a new arena and for a while looked like history might repeat itself before a dramatic ending. Plus early conference games, a rivalry renewed in Rhode Island goes to the home team, and the Spartans take another hit on the perimeter.
A big win for a program that has been quietly solid for a while is the latest sign that this could be a year where they break through for the postseason. Plus a comeback win down south, the Irish take a personnel hit, and there is at least some good news with a future three-game series.
The Big Ten/ACC Challenge is in the books, with the Big Ten winning and two ACC teams having scoring challenges. Plus a reversal of result in one rivalry, a big win for a team that’s had a tough few days, and one more team remains undefeated.
