On a Big Monday with a some heavy hitters in action, the night also included one of the sport’s best conference rivalries of late with Bucknell and Lehigh squaring off in the Patriot League. Also, Virginia bounces back in a big way and Kansas still rules Monday nights.

Coming off a 14-point home loss to Georgia Tech, Syracuse was apparently right where it wanted to be heading into Duke, where-sure enough-the Orange stunned the top-ranked team. Plus, Pittsburgh growing up fast, Nebraska wins on the road and buzzer-beaters in the MEAC.

Some games just need to be played between schools that are in the same geographic area, and we got one of them on Wednesday night. Plus the Bison aren’t going away quietly, and a couple of injuries come into play including one that will end a player’s season.
As four more NCAA Tournament bids go out, we had a little of everything in those games. Plus a few more championship game matchups are set, a few quarterfinal games were especially close, and the final regular season games are in the books.
The Friars bounce back in a big way in going from a bad loss to a high-quality win. Plus a notable losing streak continues, big road wins in the ACC and Mountain West, and one school’s dominance in an academic is continuing as expected.
With the increasing competitiveness of the Southeastern Conference in basketball, it was only a matter of time before coaches who we thought of as successes would instead be marked as failures and become casualties of the league’s improvement. That didn’t make it any less disappointing to see the news on Monday that Andy Kennedy and Mississippi had made what was termed as a mutual decision to part ways.
Syracuse may be young, may have a paper-thin rotation and may have been coming into Monday night’s game at Louisville off consecutive unflattering losses to Georgia Tech and by 15 at home to Virginia, but one should know by now not to write off Jim Boeheim’s team just yet.
