Three distinct events, all exceptional and special in their own way, led the college basketball schedule Tuesday. They were unique, poignant, just fun, or all of the above, and it’s impossible to feature mention one but not the others.
Now the season has arrived. The 2016-17 college basketball season has its first real splash moment of the season in its first signature upset of the year.
Depending on how one wants to look at it, the Mid-American Conference in 2015-16 again fit into its seemingly perpetual niche as a good-but-not-great league, or is teetering on a breakthrough. Take your pick.
Like so many conference foes now, Indiana and Michigan are more acquaintances than consistently fierce rivals, the product of today’s bloated leagues where yearly home-and-homes are no longer a given. Still, their only meeting this year looked juicy on paper, matching one top 25 team and another not far from it.
Reflecting on the first (half) month of the college basketball season, we look back at some of the bests, worsts, achievements and trends from November:

Presenting our list of 20 teams to watch for 2015-16. Some aare Final Four favorites. Some are rebuilding powers. Some are (or should be) trendy sleeper, Cinderella, you-name-it picks that you may not know much about now, but may be hearing from in March. All are worth keeping an eye on.
Conference tournaments are well underway, and one in particular is living up to what the regular season led us to expect. Plus a big program is hit by the NCAA, and the coaching carousel has started for this year.
On the scale of chic topics in basketball in general, free throws is near the bottom. But like special teams in the NFL playoffs, you better believe free throws will be important this month.
