As the season hits its stretch run, there will be numerous teams that see their NCAA Tournament chances slip away late in the year, sometimes in painful fashion. What we really want to see are teams who play their way into the tourney, or at least make us take notice based on their accomplishments late in the season. The snowstorm hitting much of the east coast is affecting college basketball, including on a very busy Saturday. A team gets stuck going home, and a couple of conference races had important games on Friday.
The Atlantic 10 couldn’t match the success of the prior season, but there’s no shame in that considering it was a tough act to follow. Going forward, it appears to be a bit of a mixed bag.
There were undoubtedly those who thought the Atlantic 10 peaked in 2012-13, especially with important programs departing. They were proven wrong in a historic 2013-14 season for the conference.
Duquesne scored a road win on Saturday, and it had some good signs going forward although there is plenty that they must do better.
Duquesne has been a surprise team among the top teams in the Atlantic 10, and after suffering their first two conference losses of the season, they bounced back with a convincing win at UMass.
It was quite a year for the Atlantic 10, with a lot of winning that led to three teams in the NCAA Tournament. We take a look back at that and more from the conference.
Duquesne is now 0-4 in Atlantic 10 play and has lost six of seven. But the Dukes aren’t far away from turning a corner if they can grow in a few areas.
