When Saint Mary’s suffered two disappointing losses in November at the Wooden Legacy tournament, the Gaels could’ve easily allowed it to affect their entire season. Rather than getting down, though, the Gaels just got to work at getting better.

It was time for a wild college basketball Saturday, and we sure got one yesterday. A busy and varied schedule was filled with surprises, upsets that maybe weren’t really that big of upsets, as well as near-upsets. There was something for just about everyone, and it had all the feeling of one of those Saturdays in the midst of conference schedules where also rans rise up to topple powers, but at least a month earlier than we usually get them.
2016-17 Southern Conference Post-Mortem
The ancient Southern Conference continues to show strength in the years after the loss of one of its premier programs, and a superb conference race highlighted an excellent overall year for the league.

Put it this way: if Oklahoma and Syracuse end up playing in the NCAA Tournament final on Monday, their combined win total will be less than that of the two playing in the NIT title game.

The fifth entrant in NCAA Division I’s college basketball postseason debuted on Monday with the first-ever Vegas 16 tournament tipping off. If you’re a history buff, you really should check it out now because…if the event is relying heavily on ticket sales, the odds of there being a second one are not very good.
