The result of a big in-state rivalry is ripe for over-reacting on either side, and we look at how one might do that as well as how we should read the result. Plus another good win by a conference trying to bounce back, a Spartan gamely battles after tragedy, and a very rough start down south.
As we look back on the first night of regional semifinals, we started off with an instant classic and then a contrasting game in Louisville, along with the higher seed having a little too much and a complete shutdown in Anaheim. It sets the stage for a couple of interesting regional finals on Saturday night.
In the latest edition of College Basketball Tonight, we look back on the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. We also bring on a bracketologist to talk about how this field came together and bring in a head coach for some insights on the games and his program, then conclude with a look at coaching changes and the regional semifinals coming up.
A day that started with two dandies at the same site couldn’t build off that beginning as most teams cruised. Plus a Blue Devil is likely out, a Tiger gets re-injured, and a few games in other tournaments fly under the radar.
With half of the Sweet 16 set, we look back on a Saturday of action that saw one site have the two best games of the day. The remainder of games were not very competitive, and we also look at one conference that was clearly down this year after a great year a year ago, along with two conferences that already have three teams going to the second weekend.

Kansas’s Big 12 streak is still alive, though its other-worldly performance on Mondays meant we should’ve expected as much. Iowa State, Florida State & Lipscomb also win and Northern Colorado makes the Big Sky race more interesting.
One team whose season looked like it could get derailed at several points has just continued to win after regrouping. Plus a damaging loss in the ACC, Big Ten slides continue, and one mid-major is as hotly contested as they come.
It’s time to ask a seemingly age-old question: is this the year Kansas finally gets knocked off in the Big 12? Plus a big win in the Big East, there’s a leader in the Valley again, and both a pleasant surprise and disappointment in Philadelphia.
