Opening night was as good as advertised, led by the big doubleheader in New York where the nightcap belonged to one freshman in particular. Plus a few road wins lead some close ones, a couple of mild surprises, and some major league blowouts with non-Division I schools.
As the season gets closer, some burning questions come to mind, and we take a look at them as well as what to expect in a few more conferences this season.
In our latest podcast, we talk about a big name receiving a Notice of Allegations and what it could mean, as well as another school that received a punishment from the NCAA. Also, we talk about a decision by the NCAA that might sound good at first, but will not be good for the implicated schools, as well as a coach who had a health scare but is now in better shape.
With just two days of games left, the big questions revolve around potential top seeds in the NCAA Tournament and a few potential bid thieves that remain. Plus more coaching news, a couple of players announce plans to transfer, and a different start to the season is ahead for one conference.
Marquette looked in control at Seton Hall before a stunning finish. The Pirates were the rare team to post a big win Wednesday while a number of others took head-scratching losses. Plus, Horizon, NEC and OVC tourneys rolling.
On Tuesday night, we saw two teams in the Midwest continue to go in opposite directions. Plus a couple of buzzer-beaters, some ACC and SEC games that didn’t require them, and a Commodore will be gone as expected.
Three games on Tuesday told us that the Big 12 should be fun to watch. Plus a not-so-surprising team is undefeated early, another conference in the Midwest looks like a fun race to watch, and a small surprise undefeated early on out west.
On a night with three matchups between the conferences, the ACC had the SEC’s number, especially in Raleigh. Plus the hits keep coming for one conference out west, another west coast team looks better all the time, and a couple of coaches will be under contract a little longer.
Arizona State started strong, but it was all downhill from there as Vanderbilt topped the ranked Sun Devils at Memorial Gym. Plus, Gardner-Webb continues recent history of beating big boys.
Continuing our look at every conference before the season, this Sunday we check in on the Patriot League, SEC, Southern, Southland and SWAC. Plus, more exhibition results including close shaves for Colorado, Detroit Mercy, Illinois State and Rider.
