The day began with an absolute shellacking, one that was as surprising as it was necessary for the winning team. Plus a sweep in the state of Oregon, a Husky is done for the year after a career night, and the third time is not the charm for a now-former Lobo.
In our latest podcast, we talk about a rivalry game in the Big Ten, a wide-open ACC aside from one powerhouse, one conference that appears to be doing official reviews better, as well as two undefeated teams left and a couple of shockers in the past week.
It’s early yet, but on the first full day of Atlantic 10 play, things largely held to form and that also meant a few road wins. Plus the home team comes out on top in a rivalry game, and a stunner in the Pac-12 before a blowout later on.
West Virginia is having the kind of year many expect of Bob Huggins’ teams, and they got the kind of win most figured they would get at some point last year but never did. Plus the Flames go down for the first time, the Jayhawks get a win and then a scare, and a Spartan misses a game due to injury.
A little surprisingly, a big man has decided to abruptly move on and prepare for his future outside of college, but there is likely to be a lasting impact of some sort. Plus a Spartan won’t play this year, a big win in Newark, and some Tigers continue lead the way in the SEC.
Let’s give Gonzaga credit while talking about North Carolina’s concerns, because the Tar Heels lost to a really good team. Plus a tough night for the SEC, another tripleheader of action, and the leader of the pack wonders why so few people trust his organization.
The last game of the day was a big one in Ames, where the home team got a much-needed quality win. Plus the other team lost more than a game, an ACC power’s scoring struggles continue, and two teams got big road wins on the day.
There were a few games of interest on Friday night, especially one that opened a new arena and for a while looked like history might repeat itself before a dramatic ending. Plus early conference games, a rivalry renewed in Rhode Island goes to the home team, and the Spartans take another hit on the perimeter.
The Big Ten/ACC Challenge had a couple of its headline games on tap, and both were convincing wins for the ACC school though the series is all tied up. That, and a few other notes from Tuesday night.
Two Big 12 programs got big wins on Wednesday and hope each is a sign of better things to come. Plus more tournament action includes a few other championship games, a Tiger will be out as long as first thought, and wrist injuries sideline a couple of key veterans.
