Thanksgiving Day traditionally hasn’t been a hotbed for college basketball, but in recent years the sport has had an increasing presence on the day, with the continued proliferation of exempted tournaments. (And that’s not an all bad thing, considering the lackluster quality of the NFL games yesterday…)
Continuing our look at our favorite games for every day of the season, our ultimate dream road trip, if you will. We started on Monday with November, and today we continue with December.
Under coach Jerod Haase, UAB put together a terrific in-season turnaround this year and showed Conference USA what it can be capable of on the national stage.
College basketball’s first big day of the season was really almost all we could’ve asked for. From early morning to into the night, the day offered a number of outstanding games that might already get some people thinking March. Exciting finishes, back-and-forth games, offense, defense, big schools, little schools, fantastic inbound plays-you name it, you could find it on Tuesday.
Determining who the very best teams in Conference USA were last year is like trying to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. Perhaps only Mr. Owl could sort that out in a league that is just way too big because of the chase for football money.
