In our latest podcast, we start with new developments related to the FBI investigation, but also ask an important question about the media reports. Then we look at a streak that came to an end, who could win an outright regular season conference title that might be a surprise from a couple of weeks ago, and a big night in the Ivy League among other things.
With a little still left to decide, the MAAC will end up with six teams very close to each other. Plus a little salvation for an Atlantic 10 team, little changes on Friday in an academic league, and a big Buckeye is suspended as a big game beckons.
Someone in Iowa City has quite the clutch gene, and he buried Indiana on Friday night the way he buried another team not long ago. Plus a bit of clarity emerges in one league race, very little in another, and suspensions are in the news that don’t just include a player.
Early on in the Ivy League, things look a bit different from what was expected before the season. Plus the Jayhawks get a bad call, a couple of home teams pull off big wins, and one team goes on the road to stay tied atop their conference.
Villanova still hasn’t lost a Big East game and looks more like the Villanova we have come to know of late. Plus a light night of action saw two road wins in the same conference, more NCAA issues, and an arrest in the Ivy League.
So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.
Saturday was a wild day full of Power 5 teams losing to mid-majors, with one struggling conference being the worst offender. Plus a rivalry game tells us something about the winner, a big man returns to action, and one undefeated team falls at the buzzer while another one beats a good road team.
The Ancient Eight appears to have a lot of potential in the seasons to come, building on what the programs showed this season, especially among their underclassmen.
One preseason favorite is certainly living up to that billing and scored a convincing win to add to that on Friday night. Plus a first loss in the Ivy, some close ones in the MAAC, and a ho-hum game further west on a quiet night.
Bennie Boatwright just may have saved USC’s season over the Christmas holiday, delivering a clutch performance that could turn the Trojans’ campaign around, or at least will keep it from spiraling hopelessly downhill for now.
