The fifth entrant in NCAA Division I’s college basketball postseason debuted on Monday with the first-ever Vegas 16 tournament tipping off. If you’re a history buff, you really should check it out now because…if the event is relying heavily on ticket sales, the odds of there being a second one are not very good.
Remember when all the talk was about how that Kansas streak of 11 consecutive Big 12 titles was in serious jeopardy? It was barely a week ago, but right now might feel like two decades ago.
On paper, New Year’s Eve featured what could’ve been two of the very best games of the year in the Big East. Call it 1-for-2 at the plate, as one ended up being nothing of the sort, but the other delivered in every way.
The CAA had an interesting off-season, though not with the usual activity that tends to occur. A big change is ahead for the conference as well.
Towson welcomes back much of its team from a year ago and could be a sleeper in the conference.
The CAA was not only as competitive as ever in 2014-15, but also quite successful, with the most postseason teams in several years.
Towson has a very inexperienced squad this season, and the results thus far are not surprising. The Tigers have done as well as they have largely because of their defense, and that has helped as the players grow offensively.
As another school joins the CAA to make ten teams, there’s one relatively clear favorite to win it all and a number of teams that could likewise come out on top when it’s all said and done.
Towson is almost starting over given heavy personnel losses, but the Tigers have talent that is to this point unproven in Division I
The CAA is now fully into a new era, and had a champion who overcame a lot of adversity. What might the future hold for the conference?
