You may have forgotten about one of the modern day blueblood programs, and for somewhat understandable reason, but they reminded us that they are still around on Sunday. Plus the road is the great equalizer for one powerhouse program, a couple of mid-major races remain hotly contested, and a tie is broken in the Patriot League for now.
A wild night a couple of nights ago was followed up by a relatively ho-hum evening. Plus one team’s misery ends while another begins, mediocrity reigns out west, and a Fighting Camel climbs an all-time list a little further.
The old guard isn’t going quietly or easily this season, as is often the case, and that shows up in a few places. Plus one team that didn’t play well in non-conference is playing much better, while home teams win out west as a talented young player is suspended.
So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.
Buffalo’s quest to remain undefeated during their great early run was stopped when they ran into a buzzsaw. Plus another first loss of the season, another hit to a conference that has taken too many, and two Big 12 teams have opposite results in close games.
A long stretch of dominance in Philadelphia has come to an end. Plus double-doubles help a couple of teams win, a quiet 10-2 start, and a couple of key players will miss some important action
It was almost a great day for the Big Ten as a few championship games took place. Plus a roundup of tournament action as a few finish up, as well as a few showcases and a couple of scores and stat lines that might jump out at you ahead of a great week loaded with tournament action.
As the early season tournaments get going, impressions are made, especially the one made by Iowa in New York. Plus a number of other tournaments get going or have later action, and wildfires in California continue to impact games.
For Villanova, times were not always this good, as it was a journey to get to the point of winning two national titles in three years and being poised for more. Plus some new language could go into one contract, more coaching jobs are filled, and plenty of NBA Draft decisions are continuing to be made.
