Two teams entered the day undefeated and remain that way, and both are led by great coaches and there is some irony in who they are. Plus a busy day for the Big Ten, another conference seems tough to figure out right now, and an important big man is done for the year.
So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.
Saturday was a wild day full of Power 5 teams losing to mid-majors, with one struggling conference being the worst offender. Plus a rivalry game tells us something about the winner, a big man returns to action, and one undefeated team falls at the buzzer while another one beats a good road team.
In our latest podcast, we have a lot on the Big Ten since they had some early conference games, then some caution with Kansas, St. John’s with a big start, and wonder what happened to Texas since they ran off to a great start against Michigan State.
The Jimmy V Classic was another good doubleheader, with the second game telling us more about one team and its growing pains than the other. Plus one team brings a four-game losing streak into a long final exam break, another loses a big man, and blowing a big lead and losing the game makes it a bad loss.
After so many doubts, Kansas is in the Final Four in this wild college basketball season. Plus the field is set with a recent repeat team, and a long-time coach may end up at his alma mater decades after he played there.
Friday night couldn’t match Thursday in terms of surprises, but certainly gave us good games with high seeds advancing. Plus a long-time coach is out in Philadelphia, another one is not going anywhere in the CAA, and transfer news that hurts a rebuilding effort.
History of the kind some of us never imagined occurring happened on Friday night. It was shocking in so many ways. Plus injury questions abound heading into the next round, while the next head coach at one school may have more headaches from the outset.

Thursday was a very good night for the West Coast Conference. It came very close to being an out-of-sight awesome night, but it was still a very productive evening for the conference.
