If the Big Ten is to get 11 or even 12 teams into the NCAA Tournament, a couple of teams need to play their way in, including one who won on Sunday. Plus the Bearcats finally avoid overtime, two conferences get tighter, and a subpoena is served to rekindle the hard feelings between a school and its former coach.
Cincinnati won a big road game that by all rights, they should have lost, including what happened before the game. Plus the tight race continues out west, a new leader in the CAA, and now there’s no mystery in a couple of recent Big Ten stories.
The Pac-12 is much better this year, but the competitiveness hasn’t changed and the standings are but one reflection of that. Plus a big day of action, one player apparently bit off more than he can chew, and a couple of injuries will keep players out until at least late in the season.
Let’s give Gonzaga credit while talking about North Carolina’s concerns, because the Tar Heels lost to a really good team. Plus a tough night for the SEC, another tripleheader of action, and the leader of the pack wonders why so few people trust his organization.
The Big Ten/ACC Challenge is in the books, with the Big Ten winning and two ACC teams having scoring challenges. Plus a reversal of result in one rivalry, a big win for a team that’s had a tough few days, and one more team remains undefeated.
One of the last games of the night was all we could hope for and more, and also leaves one hopeful about future matchups between the two teams. Plus more tournaments get going, a straw breaks the camel’s back with transfer waivers, and a Wildcat is gone from the program.
The battle of the Cougars in Houston had the best ending of the night. Plus the Backyard Brawl is decisive, a transfer case is settled, and another school appeals its NCAA punishment.
Just a few days into the season, we already have a big eligibility story, and one that will only get bigger. Plus a few close calls in good matchups, a pair of big scoring games in New England, and a record blowout.
Opening night was as good as advertised, led by the big doubleheader in New York where the nightcap belonged to one freshman in particular. Plus a few road wins lead some close ones, a couple of mild surprises, and some major league blowouts with non-Division I schools.
The 2017-18 Pac-12 season was one to forget, but the conference tried to outdo itself a year later. The ending was at least a little better this time around, but questions remain going forward.
