March as we know it is officially here-conference tournaments have begun. The Atlantic Sun tipped the first D-I tourney, with top seeds Lipscomb and Liberty clearing one hurdle each on the way to a potential anticipated third meeting. Also, Kansas State and Texas Tech move closer to Big 12 title.
Tennessee toughed out an SEC road win at Ole Miss that had a big-time feel, maybe appropriate since March is just a day away now. Villanova did the same at home against Marquette, Texas should be in serious trouble, and the wacky MVC race will come down to the final day.
Virginia slowly pulled away from Virginia Tech in the second half on the road Monday night, doing so in a most Virginia-like way, slowly and in a most satisfying way for the winners. Also, Kansas State takes care of business on the road, and TCU’s NCAA tourney chances running into trouble.
On a Big Monday with a some heavy hitters in action, the night also included one of the sport’s best conference rivalries of late with Bucknell and Lehigh squaring off in the Patriot League. Also, Virginia bounces back in a big way and Kansas still rules Monday nights.
A season that once looked very promising for Nebraska may be coming crashing down. Plus a number of blowouts with a few close ones mixed in, an apparently wide-open Big 12, and a blowout in a mid-major showdown.
On Tuesday night, we saw two teams in the Midwest continue to go in opposite directions. Plus a couple of buzzer-beaters, some ACC and SEC games that didn’t require them, and a Commodore will be gone as expected.

It wasn’t a wild night in terms of results, so an ACC result stood out a little more than it might have otherwise. Plus a team wins with its star playing just three minutes, a Final Four team continues to turn a corner a year later, and a couple of first conference wins come a bit later than expected.
A wild night included surprise results and a conference scoring record broken by the same star who held it before. Plus one SEC team is hard to figure out, a Big 12 team is not in a good place, and an expected dandy out west was just that.
So much for any talk about one team possibly going undefeated, and given that their conference is better than some think despite its downward trend, there are teams capable of beating them anyway. Plus no surprises in one big conference, while it was a good day to be a road team in another, and a mild surprise in an academic league opener.
