After higher seeds routinely won the first couple of days, the Missouri Valley Conference highlighted a day where several lower seeds won. Plus one more regular season title has been clinched, a blueblood disagrees with some allegations levied against them, and the show will go on for one school next week.
Dayton is having a special season, but Friday night stands out beyond being one more aspect of it. Plus a regular season champion is crowned in the Horizon, the Ivy is a three-team race, and a triple overtime rivalry game headlines the other games on the night.
Friday night saw an unpleasant surprise team in the Atlantic 10 lose their fourth straight game and continue to trend in the wrong direction. Plus another interesting night in the Ivy League, the top two in the Northeast continue to win, and one team in the MAAC is on top and got a bit of help on the evening.
The Ivy League is looking a little different than expected, with only one of the top three preseason picks among the top three at the midway point. Plus the leaders win in a couple of other mid-major leagues, the MAAC continues to be a tight race, and one MAAC coach will be sticking around a little longer.
The team right behind Dayton in the Atlantic 10 is the Rams, as predicted, but not the Rams that were predicted to be there. Plus Ivy League play begins in earnest with a couple of streaks snapped in one game, a couple of league leaders win, and a Tar Heel may be set to return.
On a light night of action, a Big East battle that tipped a little later was everything we could have hoped for, and a big win for a team that had lost three in a row. Plus there’s no doubt who’s on top in one league, two teams have a reversal of fortune in the Big Ten, and a Wildcat is moving on.
It looks more and more like Dayton is having a special season, one that continued with a buzzer-beater on the road on Friday night. Plus a couple of different games in the Big Ten, a light night of game action, and a coach is fined for sharing something meant to be private.
It doesn’t happen often, but a visiting team won in John Paul Jones Arena, and they now will be interesting to track from an NCAA Tournament perspective. Plus the Diamond Head Classic gets underway and ends with a good one, and the Lobos will be down two starters for the time being.
At Rutgers, progress continues apace, but now with a big win coming a little earlier in the season and more reason to think it will continue. Plus another much-needed win in Big Ten play, the president speaks on legislation, and a response to some NCAA allegations.
In a season where even the best teams are very capable of losing games to teams they shouldn’t, one team almost did twice and then won a tournament in impressive fashion. Plus a tournament runner-up is without a few players, a few helpers were handed out without scoring, and a few other results as the tournaments finish up.
