Talking Hoops with Ted Sarandis – May 5, 2016

Welcome to Talking Hoops with Ted Sarandis. In this edition, we start by looking back at a departed legend, then continue with some off-season developments.

First, we look back at the life of the late Pearl Washington, a college basketball legend. While he had a relatively uneven NBA career, there is no mistaking that he will be remembered for his college days at Syracuse both on its own merits and within the larger context of the Big East and its rise.

Next, we turn to the NBA Draft, particularly underclassmen who declared. A few have said they are coming back, and we look at what that means, as well as what it could mean if some others stay in the draft or also withdraw, including for the national runner-up.

After that, we return to the Big East as some non-conference games next season will bring us back to some earlier days of the conference. There’s one rivalry that is about to be renewed on a big stage, and it is frankly a big deal.

The transfer wire has topped 500 players and isn’t really slowing down, but one transfer in particular that recently happened is noteworthy, and we look at it and its implications for the player’s new team.

We also briefly touch on the coaching carousel, which by now is down to just one opening, though a couple of openings nearly came about as some head coaches had opportunities to leave to become assistant coaches much like Heath Schroyer did in leaving UT-Martin for NC State.
