Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis – February 22, 2019

Welcome to the latest edition of Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis.

We start with the big story of the week, which is the bizarre beginning to the latest incarnation of the Duke-North Carolina rivalry. About half a minute into the game, Duke forward Zion Williamson tried to make a move around the foul line, except his left shoe had other ideas as it basically disintegrated. Williamson’s right knee didn’t look too good, but fortunately he appears to have escaped serious injury.

The game will be remembered much more for this incident than the end result, a convincing North Carolina win that creates a three-way tie for the lead in the ACC.

We then spend a significant amount of time in the SEC, which has seen a little of everything. There was Kentucky’s big win over Tennessee on Saturday, led by P.J. Washington, whose All-America candidacy continues to surge. There was a bizarre ending to Mississippi State’s visit to Georgia on Wednesday night. And all of a sudden, Florida, a tough team to figure out for much of the season, has new life with a three-game winning streak.

Finally, we talk about a couple of head-scratching results on Wednesday in the Big East, with the losers, ironically, playing each other on Saturday. Seton Hall lost at home to Xavier and St. John’s, fresh off a big win over Villanova, looked uninspired in getting handled at Providence, and now will play each other on Saturday. Meanwhile, Georgetown beat Villanova to enter the NCAA Tournament conversation, though they need to win a few more games.

We hope you enjoy the podcast and share it with your fellow college basketball fans. Be sure to join us next week when we talk more about college basketball.
