Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals Recap

Recap by Doug McKinney

(1) Virginia Commonwealth 84, (4) Old Dominion 67
The top-seeded Rams of Virginia Commonwealth took a 22-11 lead into a
media time out with 14:31 left and never looked back, as VCU advanced into
the Colonial Conference Championship game, in a 84-67 victory over Old
Dominion. VCU’s B.A. Walker scored 14 points and hit four out of the 10 VCU
made three pointers to pace the Rams.

After the media time out, the Rams led throughout the first half by
double digits getting the lead up to 15 at one point. A made bucket by the
Monarchs would cut the lead to 10 out of the gates of halftimes, but the
Rams never looked back exteneding their lead to as much as 20. Nick George
netted 16 points, as Troy Godwin and Dominic Jones each added 14. Alex
Loughton led ODU with 19 on the day.

(3) George Mason 80, (7) UNC-Wilmington 66
Troy Skinn’s career-high couldn’t have come at a better time than his 27
points in the thrid-seeded Patriots 80-66 victory over the Seahawks of UNC
Wilmington. The Seahawks, the two-time defending champions, fell behind
early 24-11, and could never catch up with the Patriots.

The closest the Seahawks would get was after John Goldsberry’s
three-pointer to cut the lead down to 61-55. But the Patriots countered
with a good inside prescence to pull away with the win. Goldsberry led the
Seahawks with 13 points.
