Morning Dish

The Morning Dish – Tuesday, February 15th

Red Raiders Down Jayhawks in Double Overtime:
Sophomore Darryl Dora drilled a three pointer from the top of the key with time winding down

in the second overtime to lift Texas Tech to an 80-79 victory over Kansas in Lubbock.

Dora was 0-of-4 from long range before hitting the game-winner and finished with 11 points

in 36 minutes off the bench.

Pitt Upsets Orange:
Carl Krauser drained three three-pointers in the final 6:33 of the game to lead Pittsburgh

to a 68-64 win over Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. Chevon Troutman led the Panthers with 19

points and 10 rebounds. Gerry McNamara struggled for Syracuse, misfiring on 10 of his 13

three-point attempts. The Orange, who had their 16-game home winning streak snapped by UConn

last weekend, lost to Pitt for the second time this season.

Wyoming Has No Answer for Bogut:
Andrew Bogut had 31 points and 13 rebounds to lead Utah to a 71-62 victory over Wyoming at

home. Bogut recorded his 17th double-double in 25 games for the Utes, who have won 17

straight. Jay Straight led the Cowboys with 16 points in defeat.

Ultimate Losers: Savannah State became just the second Division I school in the past

50 years to finish a season without a win after falling to Florida A&M 49-44 last night. The

Tigers’ last loss (they finished 0-28) was one of their closest of the season. Savannah

State tied the game at 41 with 1:57 to play, only to fall behind and miss a three pointer

that could have forced overtime with the clock winding down. The Tigers will enter next

season with a 55-game losing streak after it was forced to forfeit four of its wins last

season because of an ineligible player. Prairie View A&M went 0-28 during the 1991-92 season.

Horton Pleads Guilty: Michigan junior point guard Daniel Horton pleaded guilty Monday

to a charge of domestic violence after being accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the neck

and choking her Dec. 10. Horton is free on bond but could face up to 93 days in jail and

a $500 fine when he is sentenced March 9. His attorney, Gerald Evelyn, expects Horton to be

sentenced to probation and counseling. Horton, who is averaging 12.4 points per game this

season, was suspended by head coach Tommy Amaker Jan. 25.

Head of Diversity Program Reacts to Auburn AD’s Decisions: Dr. Keenan Grenell, head

of Auburn’s diversity and multi-cultural program, spoke out Sunday night about the

university’s decision to eliminate the jobs held by two black athletic administrators last

week. Associate athletic director Stacy Danley and assistant athletic director for special

projects Eugene Harris had their jobs eliminated last week, as did Marvin Julich, who was

the athletic department’s marketing coordinator. New athletic director Jay Jacobs said last

week that the eliminations were part of his goal to streamline the athletics department.

Jacobs promoted others within the athletic department, including two black athletic

administrators.

Richardson Leaves Southern Miss: Junior guard Sam Richardson has left the Southern

Mississippi team for undisclosed reasons, according to head coach Larry Eustachy. Richardson

averaged 1.9 points and two rebounds in 14 games off the bench. He is the second player to

leave the team in the past month. The Golden Eagles’ leading scorer and rebounder Jasper

Johnson left the team Jan. 22.

Tonight’s Menu:

• Wake Forest travels to Miami with the Hurricanes seeking a marquee win to add to

their tournament resume.

• UConn visits Providence.

• South Carolina hosts Kentucky.
