SEC Tournament – Day Two Rundown

by Ryan Glenn

1:12 P.M. Est.
The Alabama – Ole Miss game just started. Both teams look sloppy and can’t seem to get their fundamentals down.

1:30 P.M.
The Crimson Tide has begun to hit more of their shots, but surprisingly Ole Miss is staying right there with them. Alabama is up just one, with less than ten to play in the half.

1:55 P.M.
Ernest Shelton is on fire from three-point land today. In the first half, he was 4-6 when shooting threes and finished the half with twelve points.

2:28 P.M.
Alabama is beginning to run away with it, Shelton is still leading the way for the Tide. He has 17. I wish Ole Miss had more of a cheering section, the only time you hear fans is when Alabama does something good or gets a call against them.

3:22 P.M
Alabama finished Ole Miss off, 69-52, with a string of three-pointers to end the game. The Florida-Mississippi State game is about to tip-off. This is probably going to be the best game of the quarterfinals. Both teams also have a big crowd here. It should be great.

3:37 P.M
The game has not disappointed. Florida is up four early. Roberts and Lee already have dunks to get the crowd into it even more than they already were.

4:07 P.M.
Matt Walsh is a beast. He is knocking down threes from all over the court. The Gators have started to take over this game. They are up 39-24, with 2:07 left in the half.

4:42 P.M.
The Gators are playing some of their best basketball of the season. They are just knocking down threes all over the place and are getting many more steals than they average. This game is all but over, as Florida is up by 25.

5:15 P.M.
Florida comes away with the win, 80-64. Matt Walsh finished with five treys, which accounted for all of his fifteen points. The win sets up a semifinal match-up with Alabama, which should be a great one.

7:12 P.M.
I just had a chance to meet Chris Lofton’s dad. They travel all over the place to see the freshman star. We started talking about Tennessee’s lack of fans. He does not think Tennessee will ever have a good fan following for men’s basketball. That is truly a shame, considering all the fans the football and women’s basketball programs have.

7:27 P.M.
Almost game time and I must say, the Georgia Dome is Kentucky’s house for this game. Almost all you can see right now is blue. There is a small, small section of orange and white. For the next two hours, this is the new “House of Blue”.

7:39 P.M.
It was very respectable for the Kentucky fans when Chris Lofton was introduced. I know a lot of them wished they would have recruited him.

7:53 P.M.
Wow… wow. If Kentucky plays like this for the rest of the season, they will win the national championship. They are playing their best basketball and have a 12-point lead six minutes in.

8:10 P.M.
Both teams have gone somewhat cold. Kentucky had their subs in for a while, but Tennessee could not gain much ground at all. If they can not score with Kentucky’s bench on the floor, how can they expect to do well when the starters are back?

8:41 P.M.
The Big Blue Nation is pumped up. Kentucky has a halftime lead of 47-29 and shows no signs of slowing down. Tennessee better come out shooting some threes if they want to be in this game.

8:53 P.M.
Well Tennessee did what I said they should do. They have made five threes so far this half and Watson is just playing great. Kentucky only up nine with 14:15 left.

9:35 P.M.
Tennessee had a very good shot at coming back in this game. They killed themselves by throwing the ball away and missing wide open shots. If a few things had gone Tennessee’s way, it would have been a very interesting finish.

10:01 P.M.
About time for the expected blowout game… Auburn and LSU. LSU should just dominate Auburn down low and it will probably be over by halftime.

10:16 P.M.
I was just talking to some fans who said they paid $100 apiece for tickets to the session with the Kentucky-Tennessee game. Apparently, there are more Kentucky fans here than ever. That makes it oh-so-hard to get that beloved ticket. By the way, LSU is up eleven just eight minutes in to the game, which is hard to watch. Scratch that – LSU is up fourteen after Nathan Watson nailed a three.

10:44 P.M.
Well it is halftime of the LSU-Auburn. LSU is up 46-26 in the biggest mismatch up of the quarterfinals. Most of the Kentucky fans have gone and the crowd is as small as I’ve seen it thus far. Boy, I can’t wait until tomorrow.

11:21 P.M.
I am starting to think of this game as a form of torture. LSU is up 65-41 and they have their bench in. I’ve decided that if their players get to rest, so should I! I must get some sleep for the great games that are set for tomorrow.
