Minnesota: Gophers on the Mend

Gophers on the Mend: Minnesota’s season of high expectations suffered a bad break when senior guards Moe Hargrow and Vincent Grier went down with injuries. But both are close to playing again. Grier, the team’s explosive swingman, is nursing a broken finger but participated in passing drills yesterday. Meanwhile, Hargrow may be back for Saturday’s game against UNLV. Hargrow missed the Gophers’ last game at Arizona State because he sprained an ankle. The two guards usually combine for 30 to 40 points a game, so they represent a huge chunk of Minnesota’s offensive production.

Update: Doctors cleared Grier to practice Thursday. He participated in non-contact drills, such as layup drills. Although he can practice with the team, Grier is still doubtful to appear in uniform against UNLV tomorrow. Coach Dan Monson added that Hargrow is “50-50” to play against UNLV.
