Baylor: Baylor Wins No. 1

Baylor Wins No. 1: The Baylor Bears are in the win column for the first time this season after beating Kansas State 72-70 in overtime. The Bears are the last Division I team to win a game this season, although they did it in their seventh game. The NCAA banned Baylor from playing non-conference games as a penalty for violations that occurred under former coach Dave Bliss, who led the program when former Bear Carlton Dotson killed his former teammate Patrick Dennehy. The murder investigation unveiled a multitude of violations under Bliss’ tenure, including an order to lie to officials about Dennehy’s personal life. The NCAA punished the program with strict penalties, including a ban on post-season play and non-conference games this season. [2/01/06]
