Missouri Valley Conference Tournament: No. 9 Indiana State prevailed over the No. 8 Drake Bulldogs 72-63 to earn a date with No. 1 Wichita State Friday in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals. During the first half, it appeared as though both teams were going to struggle to hit 30 points, as Drake led 19-10 at the break. Both teams found their spark in the second frame, and Indiana State went on fire for 62 second-half points. David Moss scored 24 points and was 67 percent from the field in the win.
The No. 7 Evansville Purple Aces earned another crack at No. 2 Southern Illinois Friday, as they squeezed by No. 10 Illinois State 52-45. Offenses struggled on both sides during this contest as well after Evansville had the 18-17 advantage at the break. Shy Ely and Matt Webster led the Aces with 15 points each, and Jason Holsinger tacked on 12 points. [3/02/06]
