Mid-Continent Conference: Mid-Continent Conference Tournament

Championship Week 2006
Mid-Continent Conference Tournament: No. 1 Oral Roberts beat No. 8 Western Illinois 60-53 to earn a date in the semifinals against the winner of No. 4 Valparaiso and No. 5 Southern Utah. Junior guard Ken Tutt led Oral Roberts with 29 points – nearly half the team’s points – to help overcome the Leathernecks’ outstanding defense on Caleb Green, the Mid-Continent player of the year. The Golden Eagles never broke the game open, and Green hit free throws down the stretch to help keep Western Illinois at bay.

No. 2 IUPUI moved into the semifinals with a 69-63 victory against No. 7 Oakland. The Jaguars will play the winner of No. 3 Missouri – Kansas City and No. 6 Chicago State. Sophomore guard George Hill, IUPUI’s leading scorer, led the Jaguars to victory with 20 points. On the other side, Oakland’s Calvin Wooten could not beat IUPUI’s defense, scoring only one point, which is nowhere near his average of more than 19 points per game. [3/04/06]
