MAAC: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament

Championship Week 2006
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament: For the first time since the new tournament format, the MAAC’s No. 1 seed will not be going to the NCAA tournament as the Manhattan Jaspers were stopped by No. 5 St. Peter’s 84-74. Senior guard Keydren Clark went for 29 points as the Peacocks advanced to the MAAC Championship for the first time since 1999 and the first time under coach Bob Leckie. The Jaspers pulled to within four with three minutes to go but never pulled even and did not hit a field goal for the remaining three minutes. St. Peter’s took an 11-point lead in the second half and did not relinquish it.

The triple-headed senior threat of Ricky Soliver, Steve Burtt, and Kiril Wachsmann went for 31 points, 30, and 18 respectively as No. 2 Iona advanced to the MAAC final for the 10th time in tourney history, defeating No. 3 Marist 100-84. Jared Jordan led the Red Foxes with 18 as Marist was never closer than five. [3/05/06]
