Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament: No. 6 Hampton beat No. 11 Morgan State 63-51 to complete opening round play and set up a quarterfinal match up with No. 3 Bethune – Cookman Thursday. Morgan State played better against the Pirates than in two previous meetings in which they lost by at least 31 points. Hampton beat Bethune – Cookman by 16 in the teams’ only meeting this season.

No. 1 Delaware State beat No. 8 Howard 59-47 to advance to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Hornets will play the winner of No. 4 South Carolina State vs. No. 5 Florida A&M. South Carolina State handed Delaware State one of its two conference losses in a 63-51 win in early February at South Carolina State.

No. 7 Norfolk State pulled off the first noteworthy upset of the MEAC Tournament with a 79-67 win against No. 2 Coppin State. Junior center Calvin Brown was a force in the paint for the Spartans, leading the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Norfolk State will play the winner of No. 3 Bethune – Cookman and No. 6 Hampton in the semifinals Friday. [3/08/06]
