Northeast Conference Championship: No. 2 Monmouth used some late game heroics to upset No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson on the Knights’ home court to win the Northeast Conference Championship. The Hawks overcame a three-point deficit in the final 10 seconds to win 49-48. Junior guard Dejan Delic drained two free throws with eight seconds remaining after Fairleigh Dickinson fouled him on purpose to avoid a potentially game-tying three-point attempt. Monmouth fouled immediately on the ensuing inbounds play, and the Knights missed the front end of the one-and-one. That set up senior guard Chris Kenny’s sprint to the basket and game-winning layup with two seconds remaining. [3/08/06]
