Mid-American Conference Tournament: The Mid-American Conference’s post-season favorite beat its preseason favorite 72-59 in the tournament semifinals. No. 1 Kent State advanced to its fifth championship game in six seasons, affirming its position as a perennial MAC power. No. 5 Ohio meanwhile bowed out after a relatively disappointing season. Senior guard Jay Youngblood and sophomore forward Michael Scott each scored 15 points to lead the Golden Flashes, who will play the winner of No. 3 Akron and No. 7 Toledo in Saturday’s championship game.

Toledo continued its run in the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 77-69 upset against No. 3 Akron. Trailing by 13 points in the second half, Kent State rallied thanks largely to Justin Ingram, who finished with 23 points. The Rockets outscored the Zips by 20 down the final stretch. [3/10/06]
