South Carolina Claims NIT Title Again: South Carolina became the first team to win back-to-back championships in the NIT since St. John’s did it in the 1940s when the NIT was considered more significant. The Gamecocks beat Michigan 76-64 after dominating the second half. South Carolina ended the first half on a 13-6 run to build a 39-27 lead. The Wolverines never pulled closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Tarence Kinsey led South Carolina with 21 points, and Tre Kelley added 20 points and seven assists. Last year, the Gamecocks beat Saint Joseph’s to claim the NIT title. [3/31/06]
