NCAA: NCAA Enacts Noteworthy Rule Change

NCAA Enacts Noteworthy Rule Change: The NCAA tweaked the rules of the game a bit by endorsing a ban on timeouts called while a player is falling out of bounds or into the backcourt. The new rule will ban a controversial practice in which players leap to grab a loose ball to gain possession or dodge a turnover via a timeout. The NCAA likely wants to eliminate the latter, likely using the thought process that timeouts are not intended to save a team from a turnover. On one hand, that makes perfect sense. On the other hand, the rule change also limits hustle plays in which a rebounder or defender could chase down a ball and call a timeout to gain possession. The game will miss those efforts.
