West Virginia: Beilein Earns Parking Ticket in Pittsburgh

Beilein Earns Parking Ticket in Pittsburgh: Reports differ, but regardless of whom you believe, West Virginia coach John Beilein will be paying a ticket to Pittsburgh parking police after an incident at the Pittsburgh International Airport. A police officer gave Beilein a ticket for disorderly conduct when he refused to move his car from an area outside the terminal that did not allow parking, according to police reports. Then Beilein told the officer he wouldn’t move because he was the Mountaineers’ coach, the reports state.

Beilein, however, disputes that claim. He said he tried to meet the officer’s demand to move the car while also figuring out if his family had lost a piece of baggage. Beilein said he comes from a family of police officers so he would never be rude or disruptive to one. If Beilein did play the “I’m a coach, leave me alone” card, he would be well-advised not to do so in the city that is home to his team’s biggest rival. That card isn’t good there. [6/02/06]
