Back to the Future: South Carolina State has hired a former Bulldog player and assistant to replace Ben Betts. The Bulldogs tapped Jamal Brown, an assistant under Tennessee State’s Cy Alexander, who coached South Carolina State to several NCAA Tournaments until 2003. After Alexander left for Tennessee State, Betts stepped into his shoes and led the team to a 51-38 record in three seasons before leaving to join Jeff Capel’s staff at Oklahoma. Brown was a Bulldog assistant for six seasons until he left with Alexander to go to Tennessee State.
